Art Today, Chandani Senarath Yapa

Chandani Senerath Yapa was born 1968 in Matara. She had her formative education at Matara. She entered the Institute of Aesthetic Studies at the University of Kelaniya in order to pursue her interest in painting. In 1994, she graduated from the same institution with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (first class) Degree. At the same time, her interest in archeology made her enter the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology, University of Kelaniya where she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Archeology in 1995.

While as a student, and thereafter as a professional artist, Chandani Senerath Yapa has been taking part in exhibitions. In 1994, she participated in the ‘Young Contemporaries’ and ‘Nawa Kalakaruwo’ exhibitions organized by the Geoge Keyt Foundation. She also took part in the 107th and 108th Anniversary Exhibition of Ceylon Society of Arts at the National Art Gallery. In 1985, she took part in the Asian Art show in Bangladesh. She participated in the Three Member Group Shows held at the Lionel Wendt Gallery and the British Council in Kandy. In 1997, she was chosen to participate in the 1st International Artists’ Camp and the subsequent exhibition at the National Art Gallery.

At present, she is engaged in carrying out research for the Masters Degree in Architectural Conservation of Monuments and Sites (ACOMAS) at the Painting Conservation Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
