Art Today, Chandra Malalgoda Bandaranayake

A graduate of the University of Ceylon, Chandra Malalgoda Bandaranayake has won several awards for painting and sculpture at the Ceylon Society of Arts annual exhibitions during the 1960s. She has exhibited her paintings at the bienniels of Sao Paulo and New Delhi and has held four solo exhibitions of painting and sculpture. Her first solo exhibition was in 1966 at the British Council Library in Kandy while she was following a post graduate course in Education at the Peradeniya University. In 1967, she held an exhibition at the Ceylon German Friendship Association, Queens Hotel. Her third solo exhibition was at the British Council Gallery, Colombo in 1989. During this period her work was also exhibited at the Alliance Francaise Gallery in Colombo and Laksala Gallery and Sales Centre. The Alliance Francaise de Ceylan Gallery was the venue for another exhibition of her work in 1993. At present, her work is available at the Sapumal Foundation gallery at Barnes Place, Colombo and at her home in Nugegoda.
