Prabhavathi Meppayil -My first impression of this place is the stunning green landscape; the ariel view I got from my flight. It has been only a few days in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Living and working here has been very interesting. The city with remnants of its cultural past and consumerist present, seems very familiar, like any city in my country or for that matter in this part of the world. A city of contradictions.
Sleeping Buddhas and inscriptions on the rocks of Viharas.
The sleeping figure, cannot hear the voice any more. He is like an indifferent lover. I want to inscribe the numbers.....of the stars in the endless sky, of the dead and the forgotten.......
The Cinnamon Window.
How could I not capture the landscape of this beautiful place? I made a cinnamon window, along side the other windows on the gallery wall. My friend Pala asked me if I knew the colonial history of the Cinnamon. I said no, assuming perhaps the colonial history of cinnamon must be same as the Colonial histories of rubber and other plantations in India. After all, we share colonial history.
I arrange the cinnamon sticks once again, so that they remind us of our history.

Sakunthala Galanga - My fascination for camera compels me to use video as my medium of art. Being away from home for sometime, the distance has made me to reflect upon my roots and myself. So, I began a new journey, revising the places and memories, rediscovering the relationships. Touching the world with the eyes of Video camera, capturing the fleeting moment in moving frames. Trying to connect…to reach myself.
