Preethi Hapuwatte is attracted to expressive colors and simple
compositions. Her paintings reflect her joy in life and the world
around us in all its splendor. She has had numerous solo exhibitions
after her first in 1994 at Gallery 706. Some of the venues for
her subsequent solo exhibitions were Gallery 706, Heritage Gallery
and Kandalama Hotel. She has also taken part consecutively in
‘Nawa Kalakaruwo’ from 1996 to 1999, an annual group
exhibition organized by the George Keyt Foundation, and was a
member of the ‘Gang of Seven’ exhibition held at the
Gallery 706 in 1999. Preethi Hapuwatte also took part in the First
and the Second International Artists’ Camps held in Sri
Lanka in 1997 and 1998.
Over the years, Preethi Hapuwatte’s work has matured into
evermore-simplistic forms, and of late she has become fascinated
with textures, and experiments with them in her canvases. Her
work is also displayed in public buildings such as Ceylinco-Seylan
Towers, American Express Bank, Hemas Building, Dart Express and
Unichela factory, Panadura.
