Born in 1955 in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka Sarath Chandrajeewa received
his art education at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University
of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka where he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in 1978. He received further training in sculpture at the
Royal College of Arts, UK where he did a one-year course in Bronze
casting. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the State
Academic Art Institute, Moscow, Russia. He joined the Institute
of Aesthetic Studies as a lecturer and served as the Head of Department
of Art & Sculpture for number of years.
He has had number of solo exhibitions and some of them are the
exhibition ‘Creation of Terracotta’ in 1990 and ‘
Hundred Impressions in Bronze’ in 1994 held at the National
art Gallery, Colombo. He also had a painting and terracotta works
exhibition “Art in Pottery” at the Lionel Wendt Art
Gallery in 1997 and a sculpture and painting exhibition at the
Hotel Lanka Oberoi in 2000.
