Sujeewa Kumari Weerasinghe was born in 1971 in Bandarawela. She
had her art education at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies at
the University of Kelaniya. She graduated in 1998 obtaining a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. After graduation, she
has worked as a ceramic designer at Samyang Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd.
from 1998 to 1999.
Sujeewa Kumari Weerasinghe’s work has been shown on many
group exhibitions. Among these are the series of Nawa Kalakaruwo
exhibitions held in 1997 and 1998 and the Anniversary Art Exhibition
organized by the Ceylon Society of Arts at the National Art Gallery
in 1993, 1995 and 1996. She also took part in the “Mood
and Modes”, an exhibition of 50 years of Sri Lankan painting
at the same venue in 1998. She was invited to participate in the
2nd International Artists’ Camp and subsequent exhibition
held in 1998. She has had number of solo exhibitions in Sri Lanka
and in Netherlands.
At present she lives and works in the Netherlands.
