Theertha International Artists Workshops / Residency

International art workshops and art residencies have been formulated to provide a forum to exchange art knowledge and experiences across international boarders and to enrich each other's art practices through engaging in collaborative and experimental work across artistic boundaries. Theertha International Artists' Workshops are held every 2 years. Previous workshops took place in 2001 and 2003. In addition to Sri Lankan artists, colleagues from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Singapore, UK and Thailand have participated in these workshops. The participating artists have come from different art disciplines such as visual art, performance, dance, theatre and music. The workshop format encourages collaborative/ participatory work, and is formulated as a forum to fuse different art forms where the boundaries of art making become blurred. Artists live and work for 14 days in a chosen location, and the workshop will end with an 'Open Day', an on-site exhibition where the public is invited to view the work, meet the artists, exchange views and offer criticism.

Art residencies were held in 2004 and 2005.  The artists from India, Bangladesh, Sweden and Sri Lanka have participated in these programs. Art residencies provide 4 to 6 week period where artists could engage in art making for a longer period.  This also allows local and international artists to know each others art practices indepth.
